In providing these communities with products and services we have developed strong relationships and understandings becoming integrated at varied levels within them. As sharing our growth and giving back to these communities is part and parcel of our responsibility and ethics, our sectors continue to conduct initiatives that cater to the welfare of those that need help, the most.
‘Diriya’ was launched in September 2009 as a door-to-door sales project devised to empower women in rural areas by making them financially independent. A brainchild of the Hemas FMCG division, this programme has endeared itself to rural women as it gives them the opportunity to earn an income on their own terms and with flexible timings to suit their household responsibilities as well.
Our staff in the factories of Dankotuwa and Kandy continously engage with their local communities in developmental work and support events in the community.
The Sector has embarked on many projects related to healthcare in Sri Lanka. These include medical clinics, upgrading of neonatal units providing dental faculties to schools and many awareness programmes related to the non communicable diseases.
The Hotels managed by Serendib leisure management has specific programmes in their respective communities. All hotels conduct English Classes to the children in their neighbourhood and some hotels provide IT knowledge as well.
Hotel Dolphin in Waikkal has provided the village a Community Centre with recreational facilities whilst Avani Bentota maintains the famous Bentota Railway Station which was designed by renowned architect Jeffry Bawa.
